The best advice from Paulo Coelho: Like attracts like

A couple of months ago, I was watching Oprah interview Paulo Coelho on OWN.  At some point in the interview, Paulo Coelho said something along the lines below, which has helped me further grasp the incredible power our minds have:

“The Universe is responding to how you think, consciously and subconsciously because it is how you project.  If you want to be a victim, because being a victim will justify a lot of frustration and failures in life, The Universe will help you.  If you want to be successful, The Universe will help you.”

I believe our thoughts and energy levels impact our present, future, and eventually our entire lives.  In my work, I’ve come across the idea that The Universe is an energy field that responds to our intention and does not discriminate as to whether this intention is negative or positive. The Universe is just energy responding to energy, and like attracts like.

Everything that we want has two sides, what we want and what we do not want.  Often, we think we are projecting what we want, when in reality we are spending the majority of our time projecting what we do not want.  For example, we might say we want more abundance, and may even take moments in our day to “think positive” and say affirmations for more abundance, but spend the rest of the time, whether consciously or subconsciously, thinking of our lack of abundance.  If we spend 85% of our time being in a place of lack, we will attract lack.  Period.

Now, a lot of people ask me: “How can I control what I am projecting subconsciously??” Well, how you feel at any given moment will tell you what you are projecting.  Close your eyes and honestly check in with yourself.  No one is watching you right now.  And you don’t have to share your answers with anyone.  Is there a twinge of jealousy in you?  Is there a bit of victim, ‘Why can’t things ever work out for me?’ in you?  Anything that is slightly negative?  Your feelings give you an idea of what playlist of thoughts you have on repeat in your mind.

Ok, next step.  You’ve stepped up and have been honest about some of the feelings that might be hanging out with you.  Jealousy, anger, envy, victim, martyr, sadness, etc.  You can help yourself out by finding ways to feel better.  Right now, I want you to think of 3 things that make you feel good.  Don’t complicate it.  I am not suggesting you book a flight to the nearest Caribbean beach.  It might just be clicking through the pages of your favorite online magazine for 5 minutes.  If you get in the habit of feeling good all of the time by doing small, accessible activities that eventually become habits, you will change your “temperature” level as to how you feel the majority of the time.  When you feel good, happy, joyful, hopeful, guess what you will be attracting your way?

Lots of love,

Judith
