Make the rest of this year incredible!

It is July and this video is now being posted  :-/  I have been super behind posting my segments of Alimenta Tu Alma on Al Dia on this site, I truly apologize.  The good news is that there is a lot more to come!  Either way, who says the only time to start a new year is in January anyway?? If you are ready to make the rest of 2015 fabulous (and the beginning half of 2016), watch this video.  It is in Spanish, so here is a written translation:

I love New Years because it is such a great time for reflection.  I love looking at how I have been living my life vs. how I want to live my life in the future.  So here, I would love to share with you my yearly tradition.

  • One of the first things I do is appreciate the year that has just passed.  No matter the difficulties encountered, there is always something to appreciate.  Something as simple as the lunch you enjoyed with someone you had not seen in a while or the fun moments you shared with friends.  Whatever it is, gratitude is the road you want to take.  Every time I am grateful, I feel an incredible inner peace and I am confident that more will come my way (from unexpected places!).  Gratitude not only makes you aware of all that you have, but it will wake up within you your creativity…which you will need for the next part!

  • The second thing I do is determine what I would like to create in the upcoming year.  Here is where we sometimes run into trouble.  We tend to identify a number of somewhat impossible goals.  I know I’ve been guilty of this!  What happens?  In one month I get discouraged, and the following month I forget all about them.  What if instead we determined only 3 goals that would help us live a better life?  And how about if these were simpler than the aggressive goals we have determined in the past?  Perhaps it could be to exercise 1-2 days more a week.  Or to choose a more positive perspective during difficult times.  Or to start incorporating a few more healthy meals in our weekday meals.

Simple goals will help you see your progress and keep you motivated.  More importantly, simple goals are the first step towards taking responsibility in our lives.  If we do not take responsibility of our future, no one else will.  Something that gets in our way?  Feeling guilty at giving ourselves priority over our work, family, or community. Yet, we can have a greater impact around us when we take care of ourselves. We all know this, think of how on the overview of a plane’s emergency procedure we are asked to put our oxygen mask first before we help anyone else.

Now how do I help myself throughout the year to stay true to my goals? I put structures in place that constantly remind me of them.  Here are two examples:

  1. A rubber band around my wrist reminds me to always look at the positive perspective.  Whenever I am in a negative place, I snap it and remind myself to look at thing from a different perspective
  2. My supernova phone cover.  Every time I reach for my phone, I am reminded that we are all just specks in this vas universe.  Seeing the stars that have been around for millions and billions of years, reminds me of how fleeting time is, how grateful I am for all that I have, and how humbling it is to be a part of this incredible world.

I hope this helps!  I would love to hear from you, so please leave a comment below.  If you enjoyed this post, share it with your friends and family!

Lots of love,

Judith
