Two things I learned from my Google workshop

Well, they are not necessarily two things that I learned as much as two things I was reminded of after completing my workshop series with Google janitors.  I worked with this group during three sessions over three weeks as part of a health and wellness program.  We had a great time! And the most awesome part is that they weren’t the only ones that were students; I learned a ton from them as well.  Here are the top two things I learned:

  1. Small daily changes WILL add up: One tiny step each day will bring you closer to your goals.  You may not feel that it does at the time, but once you add them all up, the impact will be clear.  This was exemplified by the janitors, as they made small, tiny changes each day to improve their health and wellness.  Whether it was walking a bit more each day, cutting out sugary drinks one day at a time, or even starting a small meditation practice of 1 minute, at the end of their program the tiny changes had added up.  I myself become discouraged if I do not see immediate change.  That attitude is a complete trap!  One baby step one day, another baby step another day, will eventually result in leaps and bounds from the starting point.
  2. Support groups are critical: I often want to do things on my own, yet working with this group reminded me of the importance and impact support (whether an individual or a group) can have on self-improvement (or any) goals.  I was reminded of the importance of having an exercise buddy or someone to discuss healthy recipes with.  What’s great is that this is an amazing way to make new friends.  Many times the immediate people around us cannot provide us this support, thus it is an opportunity for us to branch out and meet some new people.  I will certainly be looking to organize support groups around some of the goals I currently have.

I truly hope my two learnings can be of use for you.  I would love to hear from you, so please leave a comment below.  If you enjoyed this post, share it with your friends and family!

Lots of love,
