Start your day better with this

Has it ever happened to you that the minute you wake up in the morning, your mind goes off racing with thoughts and worries?

Or, maybe immediately after you wake up, you feel stuck, unable to move along with decisions and actions you have to make?

I know I have had periods of time in my life where this has happened.  I’ve woken up at 6:00am already feeling behind on all of the things that I need to do in the day.  How does someone wake up at 6:00am already feeling behind? Yet, it has happened.

Immediately after waking up, I have felt a wave of stress over some of the things that need to get done on that particular day.  Maybe it’s a busy day of meetings, or maybe I have to meet several deadlines.

I’ve also woken up and felt “stuck”, knowing that I have things that I need to accomplish, but unsure as to what the best ways to do so are.

If any of this sounds familiar to you, you must incorporate the following tool into your mornings as soon as you can.  It is one of the most powerful tools I have ever used to help me create the life that I want to live.

Every morning when I wake up I now write Morning Pages.

In the book, the author recommends a process she calls “Morning Pages”, which consists of writing 3 pages of free thought early in the morning.  It’s a tool will allow you to vent everything that you are keeping inside.  As you write your three pages, you will be surprised at everything that you are keeping within you.  Things will come out (that need to come out!) that you had no idea you were storing inside…and that are influencing what choices you make today.

It is a tool that will help you organize your thoughts, and in turn your life.  Imagine if you could start organizing everything that you are worried about, or all of the idea and solutions that you have for the many things in your life.  What’s beautiful about this, is that your internal state will create your outer state.  Your life on the outside is a reflection of your life on the inside. When you create less chaos within you, you will have more clarity in your mind and confidence in yourself.  Ultimately, you will have more tranquility in all of your life.

So every morning, I wake up as early as possible (before my husband and son wake up, so they don’t prevent me from doing this!).  I make myself a cup of tea, and either before or after I meditate, I do my morning pages.  I always make sure to have a beautiful journal that I will feel inspired to write in day after day, but if the only thing you have are a few loose pages, use that.  All you really need is paper and pencil.

My morning pages take about 10-15 minutes, at most.  In the beginning it was a bit tough to fill three pages, so per the author’s suggestion, I found myself writing “I don’t know why I am writing this, I don’t know what to write, I don’t know why I am writing this, I don’t know what to write, I don’t know why I am writing this…” for almost all 3 pages.

Eventually, I started chipping away at the blocks within me and all of my thoughts started to spill out.  As I let myself vent, I found solutions and answers that I greatly needed.  I found clarity to problems that had left me stuck for a long time.  I organized how I wanted to approach my day and ultimately my life.

I remember one particular day, when I was nervous to meet with someone and was confused over why and what to do about it.  I made sure to write Morning Pages on that morning.  Within minutes of doing so, I knew what was bothering me, why, and some ways to approach the meeting.  I would have never had so much clarity had I not done the Pages.  The meeting went better than I could have ever imagined.

So I recommend that tomorrow you wake up, take 10 minutes of your time, and write out 3 pages on whatever comes to your mind.  Fill out the 3 pages with anything, even if it is just “I don’t know why I am writing this, I don’t know what to write, I don’t know why I am writing this, I don’t know what to write…” I promise you that eventually you will start writing about the issues that bother you the most in your life, and in very little time, your pen will start writing solutions for you to consider.

You don’t have to re-read the pages in the future.  You don’t even have to save the pages anywhere.  You can throw them out as soon as you are done.

The most important thing is for you to get your thoughts out.

By doing so, you will become more self-reliant as you learn to find answers within you.

You will become more confident in yourself, as you begin to trust the voice of your True Self.

You will create such peace within you, that you will exude that all around you.

You will stop being overwhelmed and stressed over the events of life.

A simple action in the morning will set you up to have a better day, make better choice, and create the life you want to live.

I hope this article is of service to you.
